Democracy, Citizenship, & Sustainability: A Celebration of Freire’s Centennial Year, 2022

In May 2022, we worked with UCLA and USC to create a global conference to celebrate Paulo Freire’s Centennial Year. This conference included an amazing keynote address by Anothy Appiah, entitled “Cosmopolitanism in the Twenty-First Century and its Connections to Freire.” The Paulo Freire Academic
Conference was co-sponsored by The UCLA School of Education, the University of Southern California (USC), and Soka
University of America, and I worked with a team of faculty and graduate students from UCLA and USC, along with my colleague at Soka University of America, Jay Heffron, to organize the conference.
